House Resolution Calls for Naval Blockade against Iran
[Quote:]
A US House of Representatives Resolution effectively requiring a naval blockade on Iran seems fast tracked for passage, gaining co-sponsors at a remarkable speed, but experts say the measures called for in the resolutions amount to an act of war.
H.CON.RES 362 calls on the president to stop all shipments of refined petroleum products from reaching Iran. It also “demands” that the President impose “stringent inspection requirements on all persons, vehicles, ships, planes, trains and cargo entering or departing Iran.”
Analysts say that this would require a US naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
SUch a blockade without UN support would be widely interpreted (as in, by every other country in the world) as an Act of War. So it looks like Bush will get his war with Iran before he leaves office…
You think if Obama wins, and he stops the war say, he can get a peace treaty by handing over Bush, Cheney and the gang to Iran? As a peace gift?
No, he should not do that - the right wing in the US would make him a martyr.
Instead, send him to the international court of justice and give him a proper trial - the very thing he’s been denying “enemy combatants”. Show him that following proper legal procedure gets actual results: long jail time for war crimes.
Yes, you are right. But could they tell Bush and Co. that they are going to the Iranians? With all the proper stuff, people speaking persian taking them from the cell to the transport, and such. That’s not torture, that’s just advanced security techniques.
I think simply telling them actual true facts will be torture enough… they’re sure not used to it…
By the way, here is what the world thinks about torture. It puts the United States alongside countries like Russia, Egypt and the Ukraine and lagging far behind allies like Great Britain, Spain and France in how its citizens view torture.
You are right.
BTW, did you notice the add on the page you linked to?
Laser Hair Removal machine. If we are on the topic of torture anyway….
