Colleen Hammond of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, loves packing her three kids and all their soccer gear into her 2000 GMC Yukon XL. But she hates paying $160 to fill the 38.5-gallon tank. Last month, she parked the Yukon in her driveway and borrowed her friend’s Toyota Land Cruiser.

“I don’t know if it gets better gas mileage, but I like her car because it costs $100 to fill it,” said Ms. Hammond, 40. “I think $100 for a tank of gas is cheap now.”

Fail.

  1. 3 kids and full football gear? And she needs a Land Cruiser? How big are her kids? They would fit in a Suzuki, or a Toyota Corolla. Why the hell do people need these unneccessarily huge cars? Amazing…

  2. I can sell her a product that will solve her problem - for a small fee, I can place something in her fuel tank that will occupy around 50% of the space in there. Now her refills will only cost her $80 which makes her Yukon “better” than her neighbour’s Toyota.

What’s so sad about this is that Americans have been taught, and are still being taught, not to think about things, but to just accept what they’re told. To question anything is unpatriotic. To think for yourself is unpatriotic. Hell, even crossing a road without waiting to be told when to is unpatriotic. This poor woman has never been taught to actually think about which of these two ridiculous vehicles is actually the least inefficient. She just sees one cost less when she fills it up.

To highlight just how stupid this country is, the “green” car of the year is a hybrid monster SUV that gets worse fuel economy than my ten year old 3.8l V6 powered car. What makes that “green” in any way, letalone green enough to be awarded? Nobody would call my car green, and yet I get 50% better fuel economy on a freeway compared to this “green” SUV. But Americans have been taught to believe Hybrid=Green, without question. Sad.
