Court documents reviewed by The Associated Press are giving dozens of Guantanamo detainees what the Bush administration had sought to keep from public view: identities and voices.

Daarbij zou Visser tijdens zijn afscheid koninklijk worden onderscheiden. Overeenkomstig zijn wens werd een symposium opgetuigd.

Per saldo bleven Balkenende en De Hoop weg, moest Visser zijn onderscheiding tien dagen later van het gemeentehuis in Wolvega ophalen en omvatte het symposium niet meer dan enkele sprekers, die een toespraakje hielden.

Naast het afscheid, dat voor €22.000 in het jaarverslag is beland, verkoos de afdeling een nieuwe voorzitter via een ledenraadpleging. De kandidaten, Ate Alkema en de uiteindelijke winnaar Pé Miedema, gingen op ‘roadshow’ door de provincie.
