I must say it amazes me that Americans fail to recognize that the UN is an international body made up of its members. How the Libyan plane bombing is their responsibility is beyond me. No wonder the world thinks you are a bunch of bone headed warmongers.

For Geddy and others: The Ramirez cartoon is not trying to say that the UN is responsible for the Lockerbie plane bombing. Libya publicly admitted responsibility for the bombing a long time ago. Instead, Ramirez is pointing out how silly and irrelevant the UN is because the UN has appointed Libya to head the UN Security Council. This means that the person officially responsible for the security of the entire world–as appointed by the UN–is at this moment Libyan President Moumar Khadafi. Safe, sane world we live in, eh?

You miss my point entirely. I am saying that you can hardly critcize the UN as you are criticizing a body that is as good as the input from its members. As the US has abused the UN over the last 7 years you can hardly complain about what it does. Cooperation works better than confrntation.
