McCain’s Bush Burden

Posted on March 9th, 2008 at 13:05 by John Sinteur in category: Indecision 2008

[Quote:]

Bush joked about his willingness to do whatever McCain may want him to do between now and November. “If he wants me to show up, I will,” Bush said. “If he wants me to say, ‘You know, I’m not for him,’ I will. Whatever he wants me to do, I want him to win.”

A Republican who openly admits he’s willing to blatantly lie to get whatever he wants. What a guy.

  1. Well, for once in his life, he is honest.

  2. This is not news, that Shrub is willing to admit he lies. Remember Rumsfeld’s departure? “Oh, no, no, he’s not leaving” — then on the day after the election, “Well of course I said that, I couldn’t tell you the truth, could I?”

Why Bush’s waterboarding veto is a good thing

“The bill Congress sent me would take away one of the most valuable tools in the war on terror — the CIA program to detain and question key terrorist leaders and operatives,” – President George W. Bush explains why he vetoed the bill outlawing CIA waterboarding.

McCain: four more years of Bush

Posted on March 9th, 2008 at 12:59 by John Sinteur in category: Indecision 2008

[Quote:]

John McCain is getting much more than President Bush’s endorsement and fundraising help for his campaign. He’s getting Bush’s staff.

It’s no secret that Steve Schmidt, Bush’s attack dog in the 2004 election, and Mark McKinnon, the president’s media strategist, are performing similar functions for McCain now.

But other big-name Bushies are lining up to boost McCain, too.

Ken Mehlman, who ran Bush’s 2004 campaign, is now serving as an unpaid, outside adviser to the Arizona Republican. Karl Rove, the president’s top political hand since his Texas days, recently gave money to McCain and soon after had a private conversation with the senator. A top McCain adviser said both Mehlman and Rove are now informally advising the campaign. Rove refused to detail his conversation with McCain.

To introduce myself to my new colleagues with a bit of good humor, I drafted this insane flowchart. 2 months passed and nobody dared ask about it.

The 2002 speech that Hillary is afraid of

Posted on March 9th, 2008 at 12:41 by John Sinteur in category: Indecision 2008

[Quote:]

Hillary Clinton has been positively apoplectic for days over Barack Obama’s “speech in 2002.” The speech she’s so critical of, so afraid of, is this speech below. It’s the speech in which Barack Obama, over five years ago – two weeks before Hillary Clinton sided with George Bush and voted to authorize the Iraq war – predicted that everything would go horribly wrong if we invaded Iraq. That’s why Obama opposed the Iraq war. Had Hillary read Obama’s speech then, rather than criticizing it now, perhaps we wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in.

Full speech is at the link.

  1. Not that it matters, but if Obama opposes the Iraq war, why did he vote with a big YES to the “should we extend the Iraq budget even more?” question?

I can believe he is the better choice over Hillary. I’m just afraid once he is in power there will be a rude awakening as he turns out to be a politician, not a nice guy.

People look at him as he was the Holy Grail or whatnot, idolize him and I suspect he is just the same sneakypoolitico type as the rest, only with sweeter coating.

  2. Sure, I still hope I am mistaken. Just seen too many “nice, young, revolutionary” politicians turn out to be power hungry guys.

  3. I don’t think there’s any way to become a successful US politician without becoming somehow infected by the establishment. It’ll take small steps, and I hope O is a step in the right direction.

    At least he’s no W.

  4. I agree with that. As I say, I am just a bit worried that people expect too much change, too much honesty, too much purity. And then they will get mightily disappointed.
And then, then they will sabotage eventhe small improvements just to get back at him.

That’s what I am worried about.
