iPhone 3.0 and MobileMe

Posted on June 8th, 2009 at 19:08 by John Sinteur in category: Apple

I originally started learning iPhone development because I had this idea for an iPhone app that’s now a standard part of 3.0.

Glad I never got around to actually implementing it…

Sometimes it’s important to use your iSight to show people at home that you’re really in the WWDC keynote audience.

Or that’s my guess – but it’s worthy of a caption competition:

Pakistanis turn backs on Taliban

Posted on June 8th, 2009 at 17:50 by John Sinteur in category: News

[Quote:]

For a long time the Taliban presented themselves as the lost link to a pure past, a conduit to a simple life and eternal salvation.

Only four weeks ago most Urdu television channels were acting as cheerleaders for the Taliban.

Most Urdu columnists in newspapers were presenting the Pakistani Taliban as the reincarnation of early Muslim warriors.

Now in a rare consensus they are all clamouring for an all-out war against them.

Even the people who were sitting on the fence – or considered the Taliban a localised problem – have suddenly realised that actually the Taliban are out to destroy their way of life.

Every single opinion poll carried out in Pakistan has concluded that the country is a hotbed of anti-Americanism.

But now, faced with a war against the Taliban, the nation seems to have united behind the most American of slogans: they are threatening our way of life.

How did we change our minds so quickly?

More than the government or the media, it is the Pakistani Taliban who are responsible.

The Apple Store

The WWDC is about to start, and one thing is certain: there are going to be hardware announcements. Otherwise, the store wouldn’t be closed:

  1. Funny, but do you think that MacBook runs OS X and Keynote? I don’t think so.

(I know a handful of Microsofties who have MacBook Pros and run Windows on them.)

  2. my guess is powerpoint on vista. But it’s still a funny picture…

  3. Micro$ofts marketing department is really stuck on verbose these days. Must be a new style I don’t know about “….future graduated”?! Its like that catchy new name for a netbook.

  4. I like the fact that the title is mis-spelled. “Innovation for Future Graduated”? I suspect it should be “Innovation for Future Graduates”, but then, what the heck to I know? Naturally, they must be using MS Powerpoint for Mac. It would be waaayyyy too much to hope they were also using OOo… :-)

  5. Dunno… a SOFTWARE company using a HARDWARE… seems pretty normal to me.

  6. Would be more interesting if the presentation was run on MacOSX and iWork

The Battle for Jerusalem

Lots of pictures here:

Thousands of Orthodox Jews took to the streets of Jerusalem last Saturday. They were angry about a municipal parking lot being open on the Holy Sabbath. Evidently parking your car on a Saturday is a bigger offence than hurling used diapers at the police.

Suspect in Kan. doctor’s death warns of violence

Posted on June 8th, 2009 at 8:37 by John Sinteur in category: ¿ʞɔnɟ ǝɥʇ ʇɐɥʍ

[Quote:]

The man charged with killing abortion provider Dr. George Tiller claimed Sunday that more violence is possible while the medical procedure is allowed to continue, giving his warning in calls that also focused on complaints about his treatment in jail.

Scott Roeder, being held on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault in Tiller’s killing one week ago, called The Associated Press from the Sedgwick County jail.

Tiller, whose Wichita clinic was among only a few in the U.S. performing third-trimester abortions, was shot while serving as an usher at the Lutheran church he attended.

“I know there are many other similar events planned around the country as long as abortion remains legal,” Roeder said.

He would not elaborate.

So here’s a terrorist with knowledge of an upcoming attack. Why isn’t right-wing america calling for waterboarding him until he tells everything he knows? Isn’t that a 24 scenario?

The Pirate Party has won a huge victory in the Swedish elections and is marching on to Brussels. After months of campaigning against well established parties, the Pirate Party has gathered enough votes to be guaranteed a seat in the European Parliament.
