From a sharp-eyed reader comes this ad for Humble Oil (which later merged with Standard to become, yes, Exxon). It may win the All Time Millennial Award for Maximal Irony. It’s from a 1962 edition of Life Magazine, available on Google Books

  1. 2009 version: Each day Texas Pride pays enough lobbyists to deceive 70 million people.

  2. Not so sharp-eyed… Leno featured this ad last Monday in his Headlines skit.

  3. Didn’t know that – Leno hasn’t got many cable channels in Europe that feature him…

  4. You aren’t missing much; new show isn’t very good.

  5. Leno’s on TV in Sweden daily… New show is crap.

  6. Matter of fact, about 70% of TV programming in Sweden is American shows.

(some show titles are translated to swedish, but you’ll get the picture)

  7. Whole US-TV stinks. Stayed in US 2 weeks and streamed back to home (Germany). Not to ask about how those guys in the US deal with energy. We will run in a catastrophy, I have NO doubt about this.
