SWAT team goes after student loan defaulter

There are a lot of good reasons to pay your student loans. For one thing, it’s the right thing to do. For another, defaulting will mess up your credit history, making it difficult or impossible to get a mortgage, or even a car loan.

Plus, if you don’t, they may send a SWAT team after you.

Stockton, Calif. resident Kenneth Wright says that 15 SWAT officers broke down his front door at 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to a report bySacramento’s ABC station.

Put down the loan!

  1. “UPDATE: The station has replaced the story with a newer version that does not make the claim the raid was for late loan payments.”

  2. Did they send a SWAT team to the station? :P

  3. They sent a South Korean SWAT team to Sacramento? The local guys were busy or something?

Witness Filmed Miami Police Shooting, Hid Memory Card In Mouth To Save Footage

An eyewitness to a fatal police shooting in Miami Beach last week claims police officers attempted to confiscate the video he filmed of the incident, and even crushed his phone underfoot in an attempt to destroy the recording.

Narces Benoit says he just happened to be in the area driving with his girlfriend when police fatally shot an erratic driver early Memorial Day morning.

He said after the disturbance started, he pulled over his truck, and started recording with his cell phone camera capturing the shooting.

“When he noticed me recording, one of the officers jumped in the truck, put a pistol to my head,” he said. “My phone was smashed – he stepped on it, handcuffed me.”

  1. What do you think the design brief for the architects said? “Make it look as little like the Microsoft campus as possible”?

  2. I doubt it – I don’t think steve still has some obsession about MS these days.. It’s more like “we’re Apple. Make it look like something Apple would do”. As in – impossible. Like the way Apple has been proud about making the biggest glass surface for one of their stores… the same thing with this office space – there’s no straight line in sight..

  3. The design makes me think about Jacque Fresco.

  4. Hmm, then maybe it said “Do something with this 60 billion dollars of cash I’m sitting on.”

  5. It’s kind of disappointing that they’re not building a Moebius strip.

The new elements have temporary titles of ununquadium and ununhexium, but final names have yet to be settled on.

Regulators Knew World’s Best-Selling Herbicide Causes Problems, New Report Finds

Posted on June 8th, 2011 at 12:53 by John Sinteur in category: News

[Quote]:

Industry regulators have known for years that Roundup, the world’s best-selling herbicide produced by U.S. company Monsanto, causes birth defects, according to a new report released Tuesday.

The report, “Roundup and birth defects: Is the public being kept in the dark?” found regulators knew as long ago as 1980 that glyphosate, the chemical on which Roundup is based, can cause birth defects in laboratory animals.

But despite such warnings, and although the European Commission has known that glyphosate causes malformations since at least 2002, the information was not made public.

Instead regulators misled the public about glyphosate’s safety, according to the report, and as recently as last year, the German Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety, the German government body dealing with the glyphosate review, told the European Commission that there was no evidence glyphosate causes birth defects.
