Carl Sagan said in his book “Demon Haunted World” something to the effect that the idea of reason and evidence-based thinking was not innate, was recently developed and always struggles against human nature, in spite of the fact that humans are technology-using animals.

The ability to live without certainty, and to change one’s views because of evidence seems to me to be a power tool for life.
